What do you mean by Phagocytosis? 

Answer: WBCs or leukocytes play an important role in defense mechanism of a body. When a foreign body or microbe (e.g. bacterium) enters the blood stream, leukocytes surround the microbe and engulf them. 

Thus the microbes are destroyed. This

process of engulfing and destroying foreign bodies is called phagocytosis.
